The internet of everything is about to become a reality. In a, not so distant, future, literally everything – from the clothes we wear to the cars we drive – will have a unique digital identity plugged into a global information grid – communicating and interacting to solve more and more complex tasks
Data-driven services will become an integrated part of all business models.
It will change the way we work, the way we play and of course the way we do business.
The internet of everything changes everything!
Let’s see what’s possible within the internet of everything: A casual stop by a web-shop, without a purchase, is tagged via a loyalty program.
The next day, the weather is a bit chilly – and temperature sensors installed on the same guy’s clothing enables an app on his smartphone to detect body and air temperatures. Combined with the record of the shirt from yesterday, this releases a push message with the nearest retailers stocking the shirt based on his current geo-location. He considers his options and goes to the nearest shop, makes the purchase and is so thrilled that he spreads the word on social media to all his friends.
The shop headquarters monitors the popularity of its products on social media. In combination with low stock on this particular shirt at the local point-of-sales, it triggers a re-stock order.
The order is delivered promptly, and upon delivery – everything from individual sales performance KPI's, over inventory levels, to retail prices is updated automatically – and in real-time, thanks to a carefully planned data-driven business model.
Imagine what you could do with the internet of everything if your business was data-driven.
